Biography

Alexandra Tchernakova started playing at the age of 4 at Victoria Conservatory of Music before transferring to the Junior Royal Academy of Music in London. As a music scholar at Oakham School she participated regularly in competitions in the UK, winning ‘Nottingham Young Pianist of the Year’ in 2009. She was awarded a Vice-Chancellor music scholarship at Bristol University where she performed Saint-Saens’ and Schumann’s piano concertos, before going to Moscow to study with V. Ochinnikov, T. Rusanova, I. Silivanova (chamber music) and V. Petrova (repetiteur) at the Gnesin Academy of Music. After finishing her bachelors, she completed a masters in Vocal Chamber Music at the Verdi Conservatory of Music in Milan with Daniela Uccello and a post-diploma course in Chamber Music with Nazzareno Carusi and Marco Zuccarini at the Fondazione Accademia Internazionale di Imola. She has also participated in masterclasses with Natalia Trull and Andrea Turini among others.

Specialising in 20th century and contemporary repertoire, she has performed numerous concerts in Europe, including Superperspectives Festival (Lyon), Torino Jazz Festival, Piano City Milano, Festival fragments: The Wasteland 2022, St. George's Bristol, and also performs regularly with the Gavin Bryars Ensemble throughout Europe including projects with Opera North and Cafe Oto.

She has a duo with portughese saxophonist Manuel Teles and also works regularly with singers in Europe including Omar Mancini, Clarin Mcfadden and John Potter, and has also worked at the Muscat Royal Opera House in Oman.
